THOSE fashion world whisperers were right: Vivienne Westwood has confirmed that glamour model Pamela Anderson, who stole the show at her spring/summer 2009 Red Label catwalk showcase in a gold lurex dress, will be the face of her new campaign.
Moreover, Westwood herself, plus husband Andreas Kronthaler, are to appear in the images, which were shot in and around Anderson’s Malibu trailer by seasons-long Westwood collaborator Juergen Teller. Pieces from all of the designers collections - among them Gold, Red, Anglomania and MAN, as well as accessories - will be showcased with the kind of tongue-in-cheek humour for which Dame Vivienne is lauded.
“At a meeting backstage after the [Red Label] show, Vivienne thought Pamela looked stunning in her clothes,” Westwood’s press office explains of the quirky pairing. “When thinking of casting her next campaign, she immediately thought of Pamela and called her to ask if she would be interested. Pamela agreed on the spot.”
The campaign photographs, which will debut in the February 2008 editions of magazines worldwide, will also be published as a coffee-table book by Steidl.

It comes as no surprise to learn that the Guinness World Records lists Pamela Anderson as the world’s “most downloaded” celebrity. After all, she got off to a flying start in 1992 when she joined the cast of Baywatch, playing pneumatic coastguard C.J. Parker; at the show’s peak in 1995 Baywatch was the biggest show in television history, screened in over 140 countries and watched by a billion people—at that point, a fifth of the world’s population—every week. You could even argue that Anderson was one of the main engines behind the growth of the worldwide web.
Since then her path has been sometimes exotic, sometimes erratic, but never less than fascinating: the marriage to rock ’n’ roll wildman Tommy Lee; the birth of their children, Dylan and Brandon; the movie and television roles; the Playboy covers and centerfolds; the infamous sex-tape scandal; the breast implants; the publication of her two novels, Star and Star Struck; the campaigns for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and her principled stand on environmental issues; the brief, what-the-hell-was-she-thinking marriages to Kid Rock and Rick Salomon; the cute cameo at the end of Sasha Baron Cohen’s Borat; and most recently the reality-television series Pam: Girl on the Loose.
Icon, activist, glamour model, actress, writer, sex symbol and ethical entrepreneur—how does she juggle so many roles while still looking after the boys? “Well, the only way I know how to do it is to prioritize,” she says. “So I concentrate on my boys first, obviously, and everything else is just a bonus. Like September, I spent the whole month at home, and I’m glad I’m at a point where I can spend that time with them. You know what? I can work when I’m older.”.
Of course, Anderson has never stopped working. One secret of her longevity is that she makes it look like so much fun. (The other is that she still looks amazing at 41.) And as always, she wears her heart on her sleeve and has the courage of her convictions. For several months leading up the recent election, for example, her personal website made her political affiliations perfectly clear. “I feel like the country has changed since the election,” she says. “Given the crisis we’re in at the moment it’s a great opportunity. I’ve really noticed a different kind of energy around, and all my friends and family are so excited and inspired. I think Obama is a godsend. He is brilliant, and I believe he will supply tax breaks for ordinary people and create jobs here in America.”
Well, he also said he’d raise taxes for those earning over $250,000 a year, and since you’re definitely in that bracket, are you okay with paying more? “I can’t wait. It will be my pleasure to share some of my good fortune. Government should provide services that work and make our country better, and I’m happy to contribute towards better education, roadways and better health care.”
Her other great passion, of course, is for animal rights and vegetarianism. She frequently campaigns alongside her close friend Dan Mathews, PETA’s director. This commitment to animal rights and the environment has led her to develop her own lines of eco-friendly body products and fashions (it goes without saying no animal testing will be involved). The first two product lines are Raw body products and Fake clothing and accessories, to be launched in 2009.
Fake, she explains, is an acronym for Free Active Kind Energy. “Sure, the name is a little tongue-in-cheek, but the outlook is sincere. These products fit the criteria that are important to me; they’re animal-friendly, organic, affordable and made in America. Of course, with garments like T-shirts, it can be less expensive to get them made …

Amsterdam, 11th December 2008 – Tonight at 8.30 pm, Pamela Anderson will be presented with a copy of the documentary Meat the Truth by Karen Soeters (Director, Nicolaas G. Pierson Foundation) in the RAI Congress Centre. Henk Keilman, environmental entrepreneur and financer of the international version of the film, will also attend the presentation.
Pamela Anderson participated in the making of the film about the far reaching impact of livestock farming on climate change.
The livestock industry worldwide is responsible for 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions, 40% more than the emissions created by all the cars, trucks, trains, boats and planes added together. Partly through Anderson’s cooperation, Meat the Truth has been a worldwide success and has already been screened in various countries across the globe.
Anderson is a confirmed vegetarian who had dedicated herself to the reduction of meat consumption for many years. In addition to participating in Meat the Truth, she has campaigned against Kentucky Fried Chicken and against Jessica Simpson’s promotion of the meat industry. Pamela Anderson is also an active campaigner for PETA.

Dear Queen Beatrix,
I’m thrilled to visit Holland this week, not just for its charm but for its progressive outlook on two issues close to my heart – sex and animal rights. These topics overlap on the issue of fur, because there is nothing less sexy than a fur coat. I was thrilled to learn from PETA and Bont voor Dieren that Holland has banned several kinds of fur farming, and I hope you will consider enacting a ban on all types of fur farming. The majority of Dutch citizens are opposed to wearing fur, and a ban on fur farming would be such an enormous inspiration for other countries and animal lovers around the world. I hope my presence at the Millionaire Fair will encourage people to consider that you can have a look that kills without killing, and that nobody should support the idea of gassing, strangling, or electrocuting animals—especially for a luxury item. I hope the next time I visit will be to celebrate a complete Dutch ban on fur farming.
Kind regards,
Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson had heads turning in South Florida last weekend at the annual Art Basel Miami exhibition and parties. A friend who spent time hanging with Anderson shared some intriguing tidbits about the ever-present sex symbol:
• Anderson was in a very chatty mood in South Beach as she gallery-hopped and hit a bunch of Art Basel bashes, boosting her buddy and top photographer David LaChapelle, her new Ocean Drive magazine cover and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The scantily clad Anderson was overheard admitting she loves being in the spotlight, but is obsessed about ”protecting my kids from that.” Supposedly, Anderson even called Reese Witherspoon after hearing about the actress’ hassles with the paparazzi a couple of years ago. ”She said she shared some tips with Reese about how to deal with all that,” said my source.
• As for her revolving-door relationships, Anderson admitted, ”I do get bored. … I like finding a new man every month or so,” but also stressed ex-hubby Tommy Lee ”will always be No. 1 in many ways. We just have so much history.” While in Florida, Anderson was spied hanging out with actor and sometime beau Stephen Dorff — and a couple of unidentified hunks ”who looked like the typical model types,” said my spy.
• The biggest surprise for a number of Anderson watchers was her apparent deep knowledge about the contemporary art scene — including upcoming new artists, galleries and trends in the art market in general. Who knew?

As Art Basel’s final night winded down Saturday, Pamela Anderson was just getting started.
Ocean Drive’s December cover girl, 41, arrived at the Fontainebleau’s LIV nightclub around midnight to attend a party in her honor.
On one arm was Jesus is My Homeboy shock artist David LaChappelle, on the other Jerry Powers, OD publisher, dressed in signature black. Bringing up the rear: PETA VP Dan Mathews, a buddy of the vegetarian, animal-rights-friendly actress.
Immediately swarmed, Anderson retreated to a booth in the back, where she proceeded to down copious Lucid Absinthe cocktails with celebrity photographer Michael Thompson, who shot the pink, ethereal cover.
Impressive — because we are here to tell you absinthe is not for the faint of liver — like Pernod on Red Bull.
The stuff works like a charm, though; spies caught Pammie walking around the hotel lobby at around 11 a.m. Sunday morning in the same sparkly minidress.
And why not?
She’s a single woman now — her most recent marriage to sex-tape star Rick Salomon was annulled last March. Their union lasted two months. (Before that, the Canadian beauty was married to Kid Rock — for three).
At least one person in the Malibu Barbie’s life is a constant — ex Tommy Lee, with whom she has two sons, Brandon, 12, and Dylan, 10. She said they remain so friendly they plan to spend New Year’s Eve together.
Anderson took in some art at the convention center earlier in the day. ”There was such a diverse selection of iconic artists to view at one time,” she said. “It was tremendous.”
Fairgoers report Pam was dressed only in an off-the-shoulder T-shirt and orange and black boy shorts while hanging out with Paris Hilton and ex-bf Fred Durst, of Limp Biskit fame.
But with those still-sexy gams, we say, to heck with Art Basel’s dress code.
Do you ever mind all the attention?
”I am constantly stopped,” she said, “but that is part of my life.”

VANCOUVER — If you were to go out and look for the quintessential pin-up California sunshine girl, you couldn’t do better than Pamela Anderson.
With a mane of bouncing blonde hair, a Barbie doll shape and perfectly plucked eyebrows, Anderson still fits the bill at 41.
Yet she wants the world to know she is Madam Ordinary, the type of woman who walks her kids to school and does her own laundry and cleaning.

Hence this walking contradiction, who is both Hollywood icon and small-town Vancouver Island girl, has allowed cameras into her life to discover what it is like to be one of the most recognizable faces on the planet as well as a Malibu mom.
The result is a television series called Pam: Girl on the Loose which begins airing tonight at 10 p.m. on the Everything Entertainment channel.
In advance of the show, Anderson was giving interviews at the Four Seasons Hotel. She arrived wearing a partially undone blouse that hugged her curvaceous figure, short shorts and high heels. She was like a colt - skittish, long-legged, darting in odd directions at every question with doe-like eyes that startled easily.
While here, she performed a stunt for PETA and for animal rights, a subject near and dear to her heart. Greeted with cheers from a gathered crowd, she stepped into a nearby KFC chicken place at lunch time to check out their new faux-chicken vegetarian sandwich.
Anderson found the experience delicious. She is proud of the Canadian KFCs for being the first in the world to adopt more humane ways of killing chickens and to offer the veggie sandwich. “I didn’t think I would ever walk into a KFC, but here we go,” she said in advance of her little side trip.
She became a vegetarian around the age of 10 when her father, then a hunter, told her the one place she should never go was the pumphouse. So, of course, she went there. “There was a dead deer hanging upside down, no head, blood dripping into a bucket. I stomped up and down and then I became an activist. No hunting. No meat.”
She said she hopped onto the PETA bandwagon when she was a star in the show Baywatch. She told the stunt-inclined animal-rights group, “Please give me something important to talk about as I’m sick of talking about my boobs and my boyfriends.”
In our interview, she agreed to talk about the latter but not the former. “That’s old news,” she said dismissively, although in fairness, Anderson seems willing to answer almost any question you lob at her. There has been much news over the years over Anderson’s breast implants and removal thereof. It is difficult to say exactly where she stands on that front.
But on the boyfriend front, she has moved back in with first husband Tommy Lee with whom she had her two sons, Brandon, age 12, and Dylon, age 10, although here, too, things are unclear.
“I am actually staying at his house right now while my house is being built. We’re really good friends. We really like being together.” She added, “I have been working and I’m not really dating. Just being with the boys and working is enough.”
She said the filming of the television series kind of changed things with Lee. “I’m not as mad at Tommy anymore because he was actually around a lot more than I thought.”
Anderson, who is known for tumultuous relationships, has been married three times. The first time to Lee with whom she divorced in 1998, the second time to Kid Rock and the third to Rick Salomon although she claims the third wasn’t a real marriage as it ended in an annulment.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pamela Anderson is shacking up with Tommy Lee again — but not like that.
The 41-year-old former “Baywatch” star is living with her ex-husband and their two sons — Dylan, 10; Brandon, 12 — in Lee’s Calabasas enclave while her new Malibu mansion is under construction. Anderson says the pair, whose honeymoon video was infamously unleashed on the Internet, aren’t an item again. But she isn’t ruling out the possibility.
“The dream would be that all of us could really be together, but we’re better friends,” Anderson told The Associated Press during an interview at manager Peter Asher’s house Wednesday. “We’re great friends. We just live together. And we’re ex-husband and wife. It’s kinda silly. I don’t know where that’s gonna go.”
Anderson’s tumultuous love life has long been tabloid fodder. Last March, she officially annulled her shorter-than-short marriage to Rick Salomon, the man best known for making a sex tape with Paris Hilton. In 2006, she was married to “Bawitdaba” rocker Kid Rock for less than four months. And now she has feelings for yet another man: Barack Obama.
“I love him,” she told the AP. “I think he’s going to win. I like that he’s opening up conversations all over the world. I think he’s smart and charismatic. I think it’s important to have a president that people actually like. I know my kids want to be like him. I think he has a great message. It’ll be nice when people like America again.”
Anderson said her new series “Pam: Girl on the Loose,” premiering Aug. 3 on E!, was supposed to document her preparing for a glitzy peep show-style production helmed by Broadway director Jerry Mitchell at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. However, Anderson decided against trading Malibu for The Strip full-time.
Instead, “Girl on the Loose” provides a look at Anderson’s everyday life.
So why do a reality show?
“I’m not worried about cleaning up my image,” said Anderson. “You know how you do things, and you don’t really know why you’re doing them until the end? I don’t know why I’m doing this yet. I’m just know I’m an exhibitionist. Some people are afraid to be found. I’m afraid not to be found. It’s one of those weird opportunities. And it was an incredible deal.”
The eight-episode series — produced by World of Wonder Productions — was shot mostly on film as well as on Anderson’s personal video camera. Anderson insisted her children not be included.
“I do it while they’re at school and at camp,” she said. “There’s no cameras in my house. When there’s cameras in my house, they’re not there.”
